Established in 1976, Sedona Montessori School is the oldest and longest-standing primary program in Sedona.
We are a private school serving children ages three to six, offering a comprehensive preschool through kindergarten program that nurtures independence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. Our small class ratio of 1:9 allows us to provide individualized attention and support for every child.
Guided by the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori, our carefully prepared environment fosters confidence, concentration and meaningful work. With more than 45 years of combined experience in early childhood education, our teaching team provides the continuity, stability, and care that have been the foundation of Sedona Montessori School for nearly 50 years.

Three Year Olds
Children begin developing independence as they learn classroom routines and care for themselves and their environment. Through practical life activities, they build concentration, coordination, and confidence, while grace and courtesy lessons help them develop respectful social skills. Sensorial materials refine their perception of the world and lay the foundation for future academic learning. By observing and working alongside older children, they are naturally inspired and indirectly prepared for reading, writing and mathematics.

Four Year Olds
Children expand into more complex lessons as their early foundations in language and mathematics begin to take root. Their concentration deepens, social relationships grow, and collaborative work emerges naturally. As they gain confidence and mastery, they also begin mentoring younger classmates, reinforcing their own learning in the process.

Five Year Olds
Children experience the culmination of their earlier Montessori preparation as reading, writing, and mathematical understanding flourish. They become confident classroom leaders and role models for younger peers, while their interests broaden and intellectual curiosity deepens. Through this process, children develop a strong sense of mastery, independence, and confidence in their environment.
Our school offers extended, uninterrupted periods of hands-on, self-directed learning.
Long work cycles allow children to develop deep concentration and become fully immersed in their chosen activities within a calm, well-organized environment.
Montessori lessons and materials encourage intrinsic motivation by giving children the freedom to choose their work. This approach supports the development of independence, time management, organizational skills and critical thinking.
At Sedona Montessori School, we nurture each child’s sense of purpose and capability, fostering a lifelong love of learning and exploration.
We would love the opportunity to get to know your family! Because we maintain a small class size and a low teacher-to-student ratio, enrollment is limited and openings may not always be immediately available.
If our classroom is currently full, we invite you to join our Waiting Pool. Children are admitted as spaces become available, with careful consideration given to creating a balanced and thriving Montessori community.
To get started, simply download the Waiting Pool form and contact us to schedule a school visit. We look forward to meeting you and sharing what makes Sedona Montessori School such a special place to learn and grow.
